Can you fix the red light of death on your ps3 be yourself?

I just got the red light if death on my ps3 and I don’t have a warentty on it can I fix at home? Or do I have to send it in and how much would that cost?

    i didnt know PS3 had that to, i always thought it was the Yellow Light of Death but search things on youtube

    You cant fix it, you need a new one, sorry.

    You can do it yourself it is very simple. I was playing mine again within the same day. There are online guides but the best one I found was at ps3repairguide.info I highly suggest it. Cheers

    To answer your question:

    Yes you can fix it yourself but you need to be careful!

    For some more information here is why the problem happens:

    The GPU and the CPU are your main chips on the PS3 and they take a lot of heat as you play your games.

    There is a thin piece of soldering that holds them together and enables them to communicate.

    Now when the heat builds up too much the soldering snaps off and you get the red light.

    So Yes you can fix it yourself because all you will be doing essentially is stopping the heat build up!

    However if you want a hands free experience you should send it back to Sony.

    If you don’t have warranty you will be looking at $150 for the fix which is about £90!
