Dude Firstly there is no ring on the PS3.
Second no it is not that commom ok.
Third it only happens if ur hdd fails.
The PS3′s overall failure rate is about 1% and hard drives, although mechanical, have a very low failure rate (over million hours mean time between failure, so on average your hard drive would fail every 114years) which means you are very unlikely to see a YLOD, however one in three XB360 owners are unfortunate enough to see the RROD first hand.
this is the first time i have heard of the "yellow ring of death" so am guessing that it is more likely that a xbox will break.
Also i have had a ps3 since the day it came out and it has neva eva broke and most of my mates who have xbox’s have said it breaks within a year but some are "programmed" to breal just after you renew your live account.
If you Google ps3 yellow light of death you get 80,000 results…..which is a decent amount…Google xbox 360 red ring of death and you get 670,000
Well I have the original PS3 since day 1. My PS3 broke after 2 1/5 years of light playing games. I’m not a hard core player, but when Sony release the software to cure cancel I had my PS3 on 24/7 for 4 weeks. My room temperature was always at 76F to keep it cool and free of dust. I would clean it monthly to prevent dust from going in. I started to read articles about the YLOD and I didn’t believe it into I got the YLOD. Well I did my phone call to sony and explained to them what kind of errors I was getting while trying to turn on my PS3 and they told me it was a hardware problem and that I would have to pay them $150.00 to get it repair. I told them what I spent $650.00 after taxes and this is what I get. If the problem is due to hardware problem they should fix it for free not charge people for an error they design on this expensive machine that we sweat our asses of to purchase at launch day and freezing my behind for hours just to get the next generation console… Sony should be hold accountable for this hardware problem just like microsoft did with there XBOX when they face hardware problems due to the Red Ring Of Deaf RROD.
not common at all
